28/02/08- Emergency Exercise Takes Place at Teessport. Police and other emergency services took part in a live play training exercise at Teesport yesterday to test the response in case of a major incident.The scenario involved a vehicle containing a number of passengers which was in collision with an overturned tanker which was leaking potentially hazardous material.


The agencies participating were Cleveland Police, Cleveland Fire Brigade, North East Ambulance Service, Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit, Harbour Police, SABIC and the Salvation Army.Dave Ditchburn, Emergency Planning Officer with Cleveland Police said: “We regularly organise training scenarios such as these to test and validate the response of the emergency services and other companies.


“Obviously it’s rare that an incident like this would happen, but we need to ensure that we have the correct procedures and processes in place to cope with a major incident. We’re grateful for the support that we have received from all the agencies involved in running the incident, and pleased that everything went according to plan.”

 

15/02/08- Community Risk Register undergoing a review. The current Cleveland Community Risk Register is undergoing a review. As well as each risk being assessed the format has been changed to an even more user friendly layout. the Risk Assessment Working Group have been meeting more often to ensure the Rgister can be published soon.

A spokesperson from Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit said "the Community Risk Register now appears very informative and user friendly, being very to the point, and concise......"

The new Risk Register will be published by the end of March, on this website.

 

05/02/08- Cleveland Police host LRF Multi Agency Training Day. Titled "Exercise Soak" the theme of the day was Flooding. Various agencies came together to consider their response to a potential flooding incident. There were briefings given by Cleveland Police on the Command Structure, North East Ambulance Service on their Roles and Responsibilities and the Met Office, on the weather warning system, and many more.

The event was well attended, with representatives from Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, Middlesbrough Borough Council, Hartlepool Borough COuncil, the Environment Agency, Health Protection Agency, PCT, along with the Cleveland Police, Cleveland Fire Brigade and North East Ambulacne Service.

 

28/01/08- CEPU disribute "Emergency Leaflet" across the Cleveland area. Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit, on behalf of the CLRF have updated the "Emergency Leaflet" which was distributed last year.

The leaflet has information on the,potential risks in the Cleveland area, advice on how you can prepare for emergencies, but also the "Get out, Stay Out; Get the Fire & Rescue Out" message for emergencies in the home, along with the "Go In, Stay In, Tune In" information, for emergencies outside.

In total 225,000 of the leafltes have been distributed to households in Stockton, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and Redcar & Cleveland. Copies of the leaflet are also available in council buildings across Cleveland. A copy can be obtained by calling 01642 221121.
